She was a performer since an early age. As a youngster the parents of her provided dance classes and she studied at the Santa Monica Playhouse. The actress began acting in 1996 after she received a role in the TV drama Party of Five. While she was accepted to New York University, Kate Hudson was more attracted to pursuing a career as an entrepreneur of the showbiz than getting a degree. After appearing in a couple of minor films her audition was for the part that would turn into an important part of her career. She was cast as Penny Lane in the comedy-drama film Almost Famous. Although it was a film that failed at the box office, the film received positive reviews from critics and established Kate as an actor in the American film industry.
